Langer Corp. Company Story

It’s a family affair. Joe didn’t even know it yet, but at the age of 4 he was in his first year of business, working (playing) in his father’s basement office. Carl entertained his son by letting him draw on scrap “Safeguard” paper. Joe was already practicing recycling, something we do in the office today. Later, during college breaks he continued to help out.

The business started by taking a chance. Carl owned a hardware store when his brother Sid offered him an opportunity for something much bigger; to sell a new kind of check. This 1-write system was sure to take off! So Carl sold the store, moved to Connecticut and knocked on doors for 3 months before that first hard-earned sale.

After college Joe officially joined the business and he and his father thought it was time to leave the basement for a small office in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Now there was room for the first employee to help manage the office. Joe learned much from his father, especially his quiet perseverance, strength and heartfelt willingness to satisfy every customer. These qualities, which Joe shared, served to help him after his father’s death to run the business alone.

Again, it was time for a larger office, located in Fairfield, Connecticut. About this time Joe’s wife, Althea left the horticultural field to work with Joe. She felt that it would be an easy transition to turn plant care into customer care. The first test soon came when an anxious customer requested burgundy ink for their imprinted form. We used burgundy, but the angry call came with exclamations of “it’s brown!” We replied “it’s not, its burgundy.” “It’s brown!” So, with no more ado, the form was rerun and the customer remained. This one experience serves as a strong reminder that our customers are our greatest gift, even when they may seem hard to please. We consider customer care to be more than words but a way of life!

As we approach our 50th anniversary our little 1-write company has grown into a full service printing and promotional products enterprise. Althea & Joe are still working together and still married! Joe’s mother has helped in the “filing department” through the years and acted as our bi-lingual staff for a French speaking customer. Our office is all about family, where we foster among the team an atmosphere of respect, fun and laughter.

Every customer, whether large or small, will always get their “burgundy ink”.
